At SKU, we garment dye 99% of our products. Garment dye means the coloring is apply to the garment after it is cut and sewn.
We love garment dye because this process softens both color and texture while giving the finished product a rumpled elgance.
Garment dye process also allows us to produce color in small quantities and offer constant newness to our customers.
Types of Garment Dye
Reactive Dye
Reactive dye is the dye that can react with a fibre to form a covalent link, that is forming a permanent attachment in the fibre and could not be removed by repeated treatment with boiling water under neutral conditions. Consequently, garments that have been treated with reactive dye has a uniform color effect that is vibrant and unlikely to fade. All of our Supima products are reactive garment dyed.
Pigment Dye
Pigment dyes are insoluble, ground pigments that only coat the outside layer of fibers instead of absorbing into them.
Since the dyes only fix to the outer layer on fabrics and are thus less colorfast, creating a worn and faded look.
All of SKU California collection is done with pigment dye.

Family Weavers
When possible, we work with local weavers and knitters to create small batch products that uses heirloom machinery and authentic methods. All of our throws and blankets are woven locally by a family weaver.

Here at SKU, we carefully select our materials through two filters.
The first filter is comfort, softness, and appearance that promote the SKU easy lifestyle : easy to wear, easy to maintain, and easy to wardorbe. It is our goal that the customers look great in SKU effortlessly.
The second filter is sustainability. When using virgin material, we go to the source and the root of the fiber when we can. We also make a concerted effort to use upcycle and recycle materials when available. Using recycled or upcycled materials help to reduce waste, conserve energy, and closing the loop in product circularity.
American Grown Cotton
Supima cotton is a long staple fiber grown in the US southwest. Less than 1% of the world's cotton production is Supima. It is soft, brilliant, and a true American luxury.
Organic, Recycled and Upcycled Material
Organic materials eliminates chemical and pesticides used during the virgin material production process. And recycled and upcycled materials reduces waste from the lifecycles of existing material. Our planet has limited resources, and we hope to make steps in reducing negative impact when we can.
